Terms of service
Effective 24 August 2026
The agreement governing access to Dicta's website, transcription service and generated output.
§ 1Definitions
Dicta means the provider of the Services. Customer means the person or organisation that accepts these terms. User means an individual authorised by a Customer. Customer Content means recordings, transcript source material, corrections, comments, instructions and files supplied through the Services. Output means transcripts, exports and generated documents produced from Customer Content. Services means Dicta's website, recording, transcription, review, document and related account functions.
§ 3The Services
Dicta provides court-grade transcription technology for authorised legal speech, transcript review and Hearing-document preparation. Speech recognition and automated processing can make errors. Every transcript and Output is an editable, review-required draft. Dicta does not produce an official or certified court transcript, replace an authorised court reporter, provide legal advice or verify professional obligations.
§ 5Accounts and security
Users must provide accurate account information, protect authentication methods and devices, and promptly report suspected unauthorised access. Accounts may not be shared outside the Customer's authorised Users or used to evade plan controls.
§ 6Ownership
As between Dicta and the Customer, the Customer retains ownership of Customer Content and owns its Output, including recordings, transcripts, edits and generated documents. The Customer grants Dicta a limited, non-exclusive licence to host, copy, transmit, transform and otherwise process Customer Content only as needed to provide, secure, support and comply with law in relation to the Services.
§ 7Improvement and evaluations
The operational licence does not permit Dicta to use ordinary Customer Content to train models or build evaluation sets. Dicta may use material for improvement or evaluation only where the Customer separately and explicitly opts in or deliberately submits material for that purpose. Dicta must de-identify evaluation material before adding it to an evaluation set. Withdrawal applies to future use and does not require reconstruction of results already produced.
§ 8Acceptable use
The Customer must not use the Services unlawfully; infringe privacy, confidentiality or intellectual-property rights; upload malicious code; probe or bypass security; interfere with other users; reverse engineer except where law permits; resell account access; or use automated means that materially overload the Services. Dicta may apply reasonable technical controls to protect the service.
§ 9Plans, fees and taxes
Published plan allowances and prices appear on the Pricing page. Paid plans renew monthly until cancelled. Charges are in the displayed currency and treated as tax-inclusive where stated. Dicta Lite includes 200 minutes per billing period. Dicta Pro is subject to the Reasonable Use Policy and a 5,000-minute monthly hard limit. Unused minutes do not roll over. Dicta does not currently offer automatic overages, top-ups, annual billing or team plans. Cancellation takes effect through the billing flow shown in the account; amounts already paid are non-refundable except where law requires otherwise.
§ 10Providers and privacy
Dicta uses third-party infrastructure, authentication, speech, AI, billing, telemetry and optional export providers to operate the Services. Their processing is described in the Privacy notice. The Customer authorises that processing and remains responsible for deciding whether the Services and enabled providers are appropriate for its matters.
§ 11Retention, deletion and exports
Customer Content and generated documents stored with a transcript are scheduled for deletion within 30 days and may be deleted sooner by the Customer. Exported copies are controlled by the Customer and the destination provider and are not removed when the Dicta source is deleted. The Customer must export material it needs to retain.
§ 12Availability and changes
Dicta may change, suspend or discontinue features, integrations, limits or beta functions. The Services may be interrupted for maintenance, provider failures, security events or circumstances outside Dicta's reasonable control. Dicta does not promise uninterrupted or error-free availability.
§ 13Customer review and warranties
The Customer must review all Output before using, filing, sharing or relying on it. To the maximum extent permitted by law, the Services and Output are supplied on an as-is and as-available basis and implied warranties are excluded. Nothing in these terms excludes a guarantee, warranty or remedy that cannot lawfully be excluded.
§ 14Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Dicta is not liable for indirect, consequential, special or exemplary loss, loss of profit, revenue, opportunity, goodwill or data, or loss caused by unreviewed Output, unlawful recording, customer instructions or a third-party service. Dicta's aggregate liability arising from the Services is limited to fees paid by the Customer to Dicta during the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim. These limits do not apply where liability cannot be excluded or limited, including under the Australian Consumer Law.
§ 15Suspension and termination
Dicta may suspend or terminate access where reasonably necessary to address material breach, non-payment, security risk, unlawful use or harm to the Services or others. The Customer may stop using the Services and cancel a paid plan through Billing. Provisions concerning ownership, liability, governing law and accrued rights survive termination.
§ 16Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of New South Wales, Australia. The parties submit to the courts of New South Wales and courts entitled to hear appeals from them. Mandatory consumer or privacy rights remain unaffected.
§ 17Changes and contact
Dicta may update these terms prospectively. The effective date above identifies the current version. Continued use after an update takes effect constitutes acceptance where permitted by law. Questions may be sent to info@dicta.io.
