Frequently asked questions

How recording, review and retention work in Dicta.

What is Dicta?

Dicta is a legal voice-to-document workspace. It records an authorised hearing or meeting, or accepts your own dictation, creates a live transcript and prepares a searchable Hearing document from wording you have reviewed.

Can Dicta transcribe a legal hearing?

Yes, where you have lawful authority and any required consent to record every participant. Review names, wording and speakers before use.

Can lawyers use Dicta as an AI notetaker?

Yes, for legal meetings you are authorised to record. You start recording in Dicta; it does not join a call as a meeting bot. Dicta creates a live transcript that you can review, correct and export.

Is a Dicta transcript an official court transcript?

No. Dicta produces an editable automated draft. It does not certify transcripts and does not replace an authorised court reporter or official court-produced transcript.

How accurate is legal transcription?

Accuracy varies with audio quality, accents, overlap, names and legal terminology. Speech recognition can miss words, and speaker clusters can split or merge voices. Dicta does not publish a fixed accuracy percentage. Review and correct every draft.

What happens to audio?

Private source audio is retained for review for up to 30 days and removed sooner when you delete the transcript. It plays beside the final transcript, and audio download is only available through recovery while review copy still exists.

How long does Dicta retain recordings and transcripts?

Source audio and transcript text are scheduled for deletion within 30 days. You can delete a transcript sooner from its transcript page.

Which services process recordings and transcripts?

Deepgram receives raw audio for live and final transcription. OpenAI receives transcript text for title suggestions, review support and document drafting only when you request those functions.

Can Dicta turn a transcript into a legal document?

Yes. After you review and correct the transcript, Dicta can prepare a searchable, page-and-line Hearing PDF.

Who processes account and billing data?

WorkOS and Stripe are used for account authentication and billing. WorkOS receives your email, name, IP address and user-agent as part of sign-in. Stripe receives the subscription information needed to run billing and subscription status.

Can Dicta save files to cloud storage?

Where an export integration is enabled and connected, Dicta can save a produced file to Google Drive or OneDrive. That exported copy is then controlled by the user and the storage provider.

Are session identifiers tracked or hashed?

Dicta uses established session controls, including sealed server-side cookies and usage controls. A separate, publicly documented hashed session identifier control is not described as an active production policy.

What happens when plan minutes are used?

Dicta does not automatically charge overage fees. Contact info@dicta.io if you need additional transcription time. The service does not currently sell top-ups.

What does each Dicta plan include?

Dicta Free includes 30 lifetime recording minutes and the File Note template. Dicta Lite includes 200 minutes per month, File Note and Hearing templates, and cloud export. Dicta Pro includes all templates and unlimited recording for ordinary individual use, subject to the Reasonable Use Policy and a hard limit of 5,000 minutes per monthly billing period.

Do paid-plan minutes roll over?

No. Dicta Lite minutes reset each monthly billing period. Dicta Pro is designed for ordinary individual use and has a 5,000-minute monthly hard limit. Dicta does not automatically charge overages.

Does Dicta use customer material to improve models?

Not by default. Dicta may use material for evaluation or improvement only where a customer separately and explicitly opts in or deliberately submits it for that purpose. Evaluation material must be de-identified.
